What is Prop 10? How should you vote?

Rent control in the Bay Area has always been a very divisive subject, especially in the Bay Area, where the housing market is seen by many to be out of control. The current law, Costa-Hawkins, keeps single family homes and older housing built before February 1995 from being rent controlled. Also, rent control laws cannot dictate how much initial rent can be charged by landlords. Proposition 10 is a measure which would roll back these restrictions on rent control. Prop 10 would amend the civil code allowing a city, county, or city the right to govern a landlord’s right to establish and increase rental rates on a dwelling or housing unit.
